Here you will find the most important answers to your questions about 4-quadrant renovation.

4-quadrant restoration is a comprehensive, complex dental treatment in which all four quadrants of the jaw are treated simultaneously. It is used for severely damaged teeth, for example due to biocorrosion or stress-related grinding. Our many years of experience guarantee a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing restoration for the well-being and health of your teeth.

A bite lift is necessary when tooth abrasion, grinding, or tooth loss has reduced the vertical dimension of the dentition. This can lead to temporomandibular joint problems, muscle tension, headaches, back pain, and aesthetic changes in the face. The team specializes in precise diagnosis and sustainable restoration of optimal bite height. Decades of experience and an individualized treatment plan ensure that the function and aesthetics of the dentition are permanently restored.

Professional bone augmentation is often a prerequisite for a stable base for dental prostheses, especially in cases of severely damaged teeth or extensive tooth loss. We work closely with specialized bone specialists to create optimal conditions for permanent dental prostheses.

Planning is accompanied from start to finish by a dedicated contact person - so there are no surprises. After comprehensive diagnostics, a customized treatment plan is created that takes aesthetic, functional and long-term aspects into account, tailored to your personal needs.

OLZE Services 4 Quadrant refurbishment Quality of life

Restoring your quality of life - highly aesthetic long-term results

A 4-quadrant restoration always means restoring the quality of life of our patients. Our Dental Competence Center Berlin Mitte sees itself in the best sense as a manufactory for the development of highly esthetic and sustainable results by means of restoration with high-quality all-ceramic dentures. A 4-quadrant restoration or any necessary bite elevation is a correspondingly complex process which, in the long term, will result in real quality of life for you as a patient and therefore justifies a certain investment. Our experts will advise you transparently and in detail on the costs and complexity of the necessary treatment steps.

Treatment with 4-quadrant remediation

Teeth wear down over time - often due to grinding, poor eating habits or inadequate oral hygiene. The result: aesthetics and bite suffer. Many people then wish to have their teeth restored. In such cases, a so-called bite lift or a comprehensive restoration of all four quadrants may be necessary. The entire dentition is considered holistically and treated sustainably on the basis of careful findings.

Four quandrant services

Treatment procedure with 4-quadrant restoration

One step at a time

Treatment as part of a 4-quadrant restoration is always individualized in its individual steps or duration. The holistic therapy concept of our practice in Berlin creates the ideal conditions for this. We offer the necessary different methods, techniques and therapies of modern dentistry from a single source - if necessary, we also call in highly specialized external specialists.

The first step is a comprehensive clinical assessment with clinical inspection, brief CMD findings, digital imaging, possibly a low-radiation 3D X-ray (DVT), Diagnodent for caries diagnosis and an assessment of the periodontal condition (gums and periodontium).

Based on a detailed analysis of the current situation, we then discuss the possible treatment outcome and the best way to achieve it in a confidential consultation with our patients. With an individual simulation of the final esthetic result - a so-called mock-up - we can even show you your new rows of teeth very clearly at the beginning, i.e. before any teeth have been "drilled". This is because it is important to us that we define our goals together at this early stage.

The initial condition is recorded and documented with photos, models or digital scans.

Depending on the situation, caries removal, long-term root canal treatment or, if necessary, the revision of older root fillings may be required. Depending on the case, periodontal treatment, the removal of unsalvageable teeth, professional dental cleanings (PZR) with recall, orthodontic/pre-prosthetic optimization or splint therapy for initial bite levelling (compensation through bite elevation) may also be carried out. Splint therapy eliminates possible functional disorders of the jaws and temporomandibular joints. We often initially incorporate highly esthetic, fixed long-term temporaries to establish a stable therapeutic bite position. In this way, we check the reaction of the temporomandibular joints, esthetics, function and phonetics for a wearing period of three to six months. With these measures, we lay the sustainable foundation for long-term successful treatment.

If necessary, surgical implant therapy or bone block augmentation is performed together with soft tissue management for perfect red and white aesthetics of the gums and rows of teeth. For complex therapies, we are supported by the world-renowned oral surgeon Prof. Dr. Fouad Khoury and his team, who has been operating regularly at our dental competence center for over ten years. This cooperation is so valuable and important for our patients because bone augmentation with autologous bone is still the gold standard, especially in complicated cases. Here in particular, the following applies in the vast majority of cases: There's no such thing as can't. We start where others stop.

Now you're almost there. You will now receive your final dentures - perfectly manufactured, durable and absolutely natural. All-ceramic dentures "made in Berlin Mitte".

Thanks to our final photos, you can enjoy a before-and-after review of the treatment results and leave our practice with radiantly beautiful teeth. A harmonious and happy smile is our best reference. And to ensure that everything stays perfect for a long time, we will arrange an individual check-up recall straight away.

Examples of 4-quadrant restoration / bite elevation by Prof. Dr. Andreas Olze and his team: Complete restoration with all-ceramics (upper / lower jaw)

Who should have a 4-quadrant renovation carried out?

Whether it's fear of the dentist or simply a lack of time to take care of regular dental health: There can be many reasons for worn teeth or damaged dentures. The result is often inflamed gums (periodontitis), older or discolored plastic fillings, poorly fitting dentures or untreated gaps between teeth. A disturbing red-white aesthetic, i.e. a lack of visual harmony between teeth and gums, can also impair dental aesthetics. In addition, years of substance-damaging lifestyle and eating habits can cause continuous wear and tear on the teeth, resulting in a lowered bite with jaw dysfunction. People in service and consulting professions or people in public life are particularly dependent on an appealing appearance with an attractive smile as a personal calling card. Discolored, worn teeth or an abraded bite with unsightly or even invisible teeth can quickly become a major, if not existential, problem.

Turning back the clock

In this group of people, there is often an urgent desire to turn back the clock and have a comprehensive dental restoration carried out from midlife onwards. True to the motto: Fit and beautiful in the second half of life. Your specialist Prof. Dr. Andreas Olze has been advising and treating patients for many years with regard to complete dental and denture restoration. In addition to the perfect, aesthetic and type-appropriate external appearance, the functional, sustainable restoration of the dentition is one of the most important treatment goals for him.

If you are considering this sustainable therapy step for yourself, we will be happy to advise you in detail on the costs of a 4-quadrant restoration and draw up a clear treatment plan. We also offer convenient payment in installments through our billing center.
Counterproductive and substance-damaging habits -
Do you know this too?

The cause of worn teeth and dentures that literally show signs of increased use is, on the one hand, simply the proverbial ravages of time, because in middle age, permanent teeth have already been in use for 40 to 50 years. However, lifestyle habits that have been practiced for many years and are detrimental to the substance can exacerbate aesthetic and functional problems or cause them to come to light at an earlier age.

Patients with a fear of the dentist avoid dental treatment even when they have severe toothache. These people often withdraw from social life because they are ashamed of decayed, worn teeth. If the suffering becomes too great, many then seek the help of a specialist who can dispel their fear with understanding and competence. A comprehensive dental restoration such as the 4-quadrant restoration is often recommended, the procedure of which [internal link] we discuss and plan in detail beforehand.

Cola (and the phosphoric acid it contains) or other acidic soft drinks cause damage to tooth enamel (erosion) if consumed in large quantities over many years. The acid removes calcium from the tooth enamel, making it porous and more susceptible to tooth decay and discoloration. The sweet taste of these sodas is dangerous and deceives many patients into believing that drinking them every day poses considerable risks to their teeth. This can affect even younger people who consume sweet-tasting fad drinks at work, at parties or in nightclubs, as well as alcopops, a mixture of fruit juice, lemonade and alcohol. However, patients who consume supposedly "healthy" acids such as apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, often as alternative cures, also cause lasting damage to their teeth and wear them down more frequently.

People with a high level of stress, which is often work-related, often grind their teeth during sleep or at work to relieve their mental tension. The constant rubbing of the teeth against each other or clenching (bruxism) causes the teeth to lose height over time, which can lead to an inadequate and sagging bite and muscular tension in the jaw. If bruxism and the associated loss of substance is not prevented in time by wearing a dental splint, a bite lift is required [internal link: Bite lift definition]. This means that the worn and abraded teeth must be rebuilt with esthetic all-ceramic dentures.

Another cause of premature tooth wear can be acquired or congenital malocclusion that has not been corrected. This usually leads to some teeth being subjected to greater strain when chewing. A misaligned jaw can also result in wear and tear. In this case, combined braces therapy with jaw repositioning is often indicated prior to 4-quadrant rehabilitation or bite lifting.

Your personal treatment and cost plan for worn teeth

After a detailed diagnosis, you will receive a detailed treatment and cost plan that summarizes the necessary treatments or therapy steps for the entire treatment period and quantifies the expected costs of prosthetic rehabilitation to the best of our knowledge and belief, including bite elevation if necessary. In exceptional cases, there may be deviations depending on the course of treatment, which may also affect the costs.

Initially, however, the treatment and cost plan provides a very good overview so that the patient can get an idea of the individual costs of prosthetic treatment, possibly in conjunction with bite correction. Unfortunately, it is not possible to give lump sums because bite elevation as part of a 4-quadrant restoration is individual and different for each patient.

How much does the restoration of an abraded denture cost?

The costs of a 4-quadrant restoration or bite lift are made up of three parts:

  • Dentist's fee
  • Material costs and
  • Laboratory costs

Some of the costs are covered by the statutory health insurance funds. However, they only pay fixed cost subsidies within the framework of so-called standard care. This is the simplest form of care. More aesthetic solutions and gentler treatment methods or improved digital diagnostics are unfortunately not included - despite their proven advantages. Some or all of the costs for these are billed privately. Some examples of such dental services with private cost sharing are

More precise and gentler than conventional root canal treatment and therefore more effective for long-term tooth preservation.

Craniomandibular dysfunction - CMD for short - often occurs together with a lowered bite. It must always be treated before the bite is raised. If there is evidence of symptoms, the statutory health insurance companies usually cover the costs of necessary splint therapy. However, the complex functional diagnostics of the temporomandibular joints, for example, which are the basis for the detection of CMD in the first place, are not covered by the statutory health insurance companies. The situation is similar for subsequent functional therapy. The restoration of the occlusal surfaces and the restoration of a healthy bite are largely private services.

In the case of higher-quality dental prostheses on implants, the range of benefits offered by statutory insurers remains significantly limited. Dentures on implants are the best example of this. Only removable dentures are subsidized. The costs for fixed, durable and aesthetically pleasing dentures on implants must be paid for by the patients themselves - including modern diagnostics or high-quality and sustainable materials. In the case of material costs, statutory health insurance companies only pay for minimum standards or even only for certain teeth. Even for simple composite fillings or build-ups, patients often have to pay their own share. This also applies to laboratory costs incurred for restorations with ceramic dentures or dental splints for bite correction.

We firmly believe that patients should always have the opportunity to choose the best treatment for them. High-quality treatment with dentures and even more so with bite correction, which includes pain therapy as well as esthetic aspects, should never be limited by financial constraints.

However, not all patients can cover the costs immediately. Although we regularly recommend it, not all insured persons have supplementary dental insurance that would cover all or most of the costs, depending on the chosen tariff. That's why we are happy to help by offering financing and installment payments for bite correction and other treatments through our external billing center. Just get in touch with us!
