Dental implants

Here you will find the most important answers to your questions about dental implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium or ceramic that is firmly anchored in the jawbone. It forms the stable foundation for crowns, bridges or dentures - for permanently fixed dentures and a natural chewing sensation.

From the initial diagnosis to the insertion of the crown: After a thorough examination, the implant is inserted in a minimally invasive procedure. After a few weeks of healing [osseointegration], the final prosthesis is placed. Gentle and precise - for your best possible result.

The costs are usually between 1,800 and 3,500 euros per implant. The statutory health insurance fund only pays a fixed subsidy; the majority must be paid privately. Private supplementary insurance can help to reduce the costs.

Experience has shown that high-quality dental implants last 15 years or longer, often even a lifetime - provided they are well cared for and regularly checked. Advantages compared to a bridge: no grinding of healthy neighboring teeth, better preservation of the jawbone and a more natural feeling when chewing.

Dental implants: Your way to a better quality of life.

From immediate implant placement to bone augmentation - we offer the entire spectrum of modern dental implants. Precise, minimally invasive and with the aim of perfectly combining function and aesthetics.

A major advantage of implants is that no healthy teeth need to be ground down to secure the dentures. There are no annoying retaining devices as with traditional prosthetics. When chewing, speaking or laughing, there is no discomfort or slippage of the prosthesis and the natural facial contours are retained.

Precise diagnostics and planning

Every implant treatment is based on precise diagnostics and careful planning. We work with low-radiation 3D X-rays (DVT). The position of the implant can thus be precisely predetermined.

Bone augmentation

Dental implants need a stable foundation. We use modern bone augmentation techniques, preferably with your own bone or bone replacement materials - together with the world-renowned specialist Prof. Dr. med. dent. Fouad Khoury and his team.

Forms of supply

Whether you have a tooth gap or an edentulous jaw, fixed dentures on implants are desirable and possible in different constellations. Regardless of whether you want to restore a gap between your teeth or whether you are already wearing a loose denture and would like to fix it - we have the right restoration for you!

How much do implants cost?

We will enlighten you: What does implant treatment cost and who ultimately pays for it? We will provide you with comprehensive information about your treatment and cost plan.

Implant aftercare

We are also happy to look after you after implant treatment with individual, gentle and sustainable prophylaxis in our dental practice for the long-term preservation of your implants. We also provide tips on how to care for your "new teeth" at home.

Sustainable and holistically planned esthetic dentures on implants enable you to have beautiful teeth for a lifetime. Three factors are decisive for this reliability and the firm hold of dental implants into old age: selected, proven materials, the passion and expertise of a dentist experienced in implantology and finally the precision of modern computer technology. At the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze, we use the possibilities of digitalization, particularly in implant planning with digital volume tomography (DVT), to guarantee you long-term treatment success with the highest precision.

3D X-ray with digital volume tomography

Digital volume tomography, or CBCT for short, is now an integral part of modern dentistry. It is an imaging procedure with a three-dimensional representation of regions of the mouth, jaw or face. The advantages over conventional projection images using X-rays are manifold. CBCT shows even the finest anatomical structures in a precise spatial image without the typical image overlays and blurring of conventional X-ray images. At the same time, the radiation exposure for you as a patient during a CBCT scan is comparable to normal X-rays if the radiation field is limited accordingly, and the scan itself is also simple, pleasant and direct for you in our dental practice: you take a short seat on a comfortable chair, the CBCT device rotates around your head, collects its data and then makes it available seconds later as 3D images at every workstation in our practice - diagnostics couldn't be simpler or more precise today.

3D diagnostics and implant planning

At the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze Berlin MITTE, DVT technology expands our range of treatments for you. Digital X-rays and dental volume tomography are used here in diagnostics or in the planning of dental implants, allow gentle, fast and safe treatment with dental prostheses on implants through 3D implantology or support us in successful bone augmentation as preparation for the use of dental implants. DVT thus creates the basis for maximum safety and precision in every treatment in many areas of implantology.

Implants need safety

Safety is a basic prerequisite for the long-term, stable retention of esthetic dentures with implants. Part of this security comes from good oral health, which results from your own dental care at home. However, our professional prophylaxis and sufficient bone substance also form further foundations. However, many patients who decide to have implants often do not meet these requirements due to age or dental disease. At the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze in Berlin MITTE, we create safe and perfect conditions for the subsequent healing of implants during pre-treatment.

Prophylaxis - prevention for implants

The possibilities and services of implantology are only in demand when tooth loss has already occurred or existing teeth can no longer be preserved. The preservation of your natural teeth is always the top priority of our dental practice, Prof. Dr. Olze. This includes regular professional prophylaxis and the successful treatment of diseases such as gingivitis, caries or periodontitis. The earlier these diseases are detected and treated by us during regular visits to the dental practice for prophylaxis, the greater the chances of successful treatment, including tooth preservation. Only a tooth that is no longer worth preserving is extracted and the resulting tooth gap is then filled with an implant or other dental prosthesis. In any case, implants require optimal oral hygiene with complete freedom from inflammation for a low-risk procedure and subsequent good healing, which may first have to be established in preliminary treatments.

Bone augmentation - a firm foundation

If this healthy basis is available, we at the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze in Berlin MITTE start planning the implants on the basis of X-ray images or the three-dimensional images of the digital volume tomography. Both also show the condition of the jawbone. The bone must still provide sufficient substance for implants to be firmly fixed during the healing process. After periodontitis, prolonged lack of stimulation by a natural tooth root or due to age, the jawbone has already receded considerably in many patients. To ensure that you do not have to do without implants and aesthetic dentures, we first prepare the jawbone with bone augmentation for the restoration with implant-supported dentures.

More bone and soft tissue for dental implants

Nature is the great model when we treat our patients with dentures at the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze. If natural aesthetics are to be achieved with fixed dentures on implants, which are indistinguishable from real teeth, particular attention must be paid to the prior creation of an appropriate bone and soft tissue volume.
Only after appropriate bone and soft tissue augmentation can the implants be placed in an aesthetically ideal position for the subsequent denture restoration. Only under these conditions can the proportions of the new teeth attached to the implants be truly natural.

Bone augmentation by international specialists

Augmentation involves very different degrees of difficulty. For very complex cases, we have teamed up with a master of his trade: Prof. Dr. med. dent. Fouad Khoury is a world-renowned specialist in the field of grafting from and with the body's own bone. He is head physician at the private dental clinic Schloss Schellenstein and operates together with the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze on specific dates. The current techniques of augmentation, bone augmentation with the patient's own bone or bone replacement materials offer comprehensive options for rebuilding the receded bone prior to implant treatment.

DVT diagnostics - a stable foundation for implants

Implants require a sufficiently stable base in the jawbone to hold them firmly in place for many years. The bone must have a certain height and thickness, which we can check precisely using CBCT diagnostics. Younger, healthy patients usually fulfill this requirement. However, after periodontal disease or with increasing age, the bone mass has often already receded too far for direct restoration with implants. Bone loss also occurs under bridges or dentures, as the jaw is no longer stimulated to produce new cells. At our dental practice in Berlin MITTE, we use various augmentation techniques to skillfully prepare your jaw for safe implant placement.

Bone grafting

Good donor regions are found particularly in the area behind the mandibular wisdom teeth. Bone blocks can be harvested particularly gently here, which can be used to build up missing bone in the upper and lower jaw. After a healing period of just three months, the implants can be placed. For this purpose, two partial blocks are harvested from each bone block, which are thinly processed with a sterile bone scraper. The processed partial blocks are then screwed into place at a distance in the area of the defect in the recipient region. Finally, the bone chips obtained during the processing of the blocks are placed between the screw-retained partial blocks. With this procedure, the entire bone defect is built up exclusively with the body's own material.

Sinus lift

In lateral maxillary regions that have not had their own dentition for a long time, the space of the maxillary sinuses expands in addition to a reduction in the maxillary process. In order to ensure sufficient vertical bone supply, bone augmentation in the maxillary sinuses is required in these areas in addition to the actual augmentation of the maxillary process. For this purpose, the so-called sinus lift is a common procedure in which the mucous membrane at the bottom of your maxillary sinus is lifted to the required extent. This creates a cavity that is filled with a mixture of your own bone and synthetic bone material. The addition of synthetic material is only necessary in the case of a sinus lift, as the cavities to be filled reach a certain size that cannot be filled with the patient's own bone alone. We perform smaller augmentations together with the placement of implants in one treatment. In the case of larger bone loss, the bone material inserted must first heal for a few months before we can treat you further.

Natural materials for bone augmentation

At the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze, we rely on bone augmentation with autologous bone whenever possible. This offers you many advantages over synthetic or foreign bone material. It already contains the body's own cell material, which promotes optimal and rapid healing of the bone augmentation. Osseointegration, the subsequent adhesion of the bone cells to the implant, also works best with your own natural bone material.

A smile with gleaming white teeth is not only an ideal of beauty, but also stands for quality of life. Many patients who have lost one or more teeth in the course of their lives due to illness or accident feel severely impaired in everyday life. Ideally, the choice of a suitable dental prosthesis is a fixed restoration with dental implants. At the same time, there are many arguments from a dental point of view for closing a tooth gap quickly.

Rapid gap restoration with dental implants

If a tooth gap exists over a longer period of time, the neighboring teeth can shift. This results in incorrect loading and pain. The uneven chewing load alone changes the facial muscles and features. If the jawbone in a tooth gap then also deteriorates, the physiognomy changes even further - which is why it is important to have a dental prosthesis fitted quickly in the event of a tooth gap. Modern dentures with implants not only visually replace missing teeth. They give you a harmony of aesthetics and function, because they last for many years, just like your natural teeth.

From the single tooth gap to the edentulous jaw

After the loss of a single tooth, we close the resulting gap with a single implant, which is later fitted with a single-tooth crown. If several teeth are missing, we also use implants to give you fixed, naturally beautiful teeth and an unbiased smile again. In these cases, the implants then support fixed bridges or partial dentures. However, they also provide a stable hold for an entire prosthesis, the so-called "third party", in the case of a completely toothless jaw, and even an extensive prosthetic restoration on implants is possible, which restores the harmony of the face and teeth.

Immediate implantation - in one day if it suits

Under optimal conditions - which we check with modern diagnostics - we can even perform immediate implantation: a single, minimally invasive procedure after which you are immediately provided with a fixed, aesthetic dental prosthesis. If there has already been severe bone loss in the jaw under a tooth gap, under dentures such as bridges and prostheses or after a dental disease such as periodontitis, we at the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze offer you not only implantology but also the complete range of necessary preliminary treatments, such as bone augmentation from experienced hands.

Reliable, understandable, transparent

When you decide to have implants, you are making a decision in favor of high-quality, long-lasting and aesthetic dentures. It is also a major preliminary decision and requires a relationship of trust with your dentist and implantologist: trust in their experience, precision and competence, but also trust in the appropriate calculation of the costs for the dental implants. At the dental practice of Prof. Dr. Olze, you can rely on all of this: many years of experience combined with extensive implantological expertise meet fair and transparent costing.

Proper care for implants - beautiful teeth for a lifetime

In addition to natural aesthetics and high functionality, years of reliable support is another major advantage of dentures on implants. With dental implants, you are opting for a high-quality and long-lasting dental prosthesis. However, like your natural teeth, your implants also require regular care and prophylaxis so that you can enjoy your implants for as long as possible. Protection for your dental implants begins at the Berlin MITTE dental practice shortly after the implants are inserted with professional aftercare.

Peri-implantitis

Dental implants@2x
What is peri-implantitis?

Peri-implantitis is comparable to periodontitis in natural teeth. It arises from plaque on implants and implant-supported dentures, which is regularly deposited here and not adequately removed. Bacteria settle there, whose aggressive metabolic products can initially trigger inflammation of the gums surrounding the implant. As the inflammation progresses, the bone in which the implant is anchored can also be affected. This can result in bone resorption and, in the worst case, peri-implantitis can lead to the loss of the affected implant.

Controlled aftercare for your implants

After your implants have been inserted, only one treatment is usually required for the first follow-up. The practitioner checks the healing progress. After the implants have healed, which is usually covered, the sutures are also removed and the area around the procedure is professionally cleaned. The implants now have to heal. Until uncovery and final prosthetic restoration, you will usually wear fixed, non-removable, aesthetic long-term temporary dentures, with which you can participate fully and without restriction in life.

Whether at work or at private celebrations and meals, you can smile, speak and eat largely normally at all times. In certain cases, you will receive your final fixed prosthesis in the form of single crowns or fixed or removable bridges immediately after implantation. Our team will of course be happy to provide you with tips and assistance regarding the care of your implants and the inserted dentures.

Cost transparency inspires confidence.

How much do dental implants cost?

This is a question that concerns many of our patients. Unfortunately, there is no "one-fits-all" answer here. Why? Because every treatment case is individual and different in its complexity: the total individual costs are only calculated after intensive diagnostics, the scope of which is determined by the specific oral characteristics and the desired treatment goal. Necessary preliminary treatments, such as bone augmentation, which in certain cases is a prerequisite for creating a stable base for the dental implants, determine the final price, as do the specific choice of implants and the type of dental prosthesis required. The total cost also depends on whether implant-supported single crowns or fixed or removable bridges are incorporated at the end of the prosthetic restoration.

Individual treatment and cost plan

After a detailed preliminary examination, we will be happy to discuss the exact services required for implant treatment with you in detail and in person. In the course of this consultation, you will also receive a treatment and cost plan from us, which summarizes all the details and costs of your dental implants and their prosthetic restoration in a clear, written format.

Standard care from the statutory health insurance funds

Despite their many advantages, dental implants are not covered by statutory health insurance. However, the statutory health insurance companies always provide a fixed allowance for the provision of dental prostheses on implants - as a patient with statutory health insurance, you must bear any additional costs for dental implants yourself. It can therefore be helpful to take out supplementary dental insurance in good time. In the case of private health insurance, your individual insurance tariff determines whether and to what extent your insurer will cover the costs of dental implants.
