Does root canal treatment hurt?

Can you cure root inflammation yourself—without root canal treatment?
As much as we sometimes wish it would: An inflamed tooth root does not heal by itself. Home remedies can briefly alleviate symptoms, but the cause - the infection inside the tooth - remains. Timely root canal treatment prevents worse and preserves the tooth permanently.
Does the tooth have to be extracted - or can it be saved?
In most cases, the tooth can be saved. Root canal treatment is often the best chance of preserving the tooth in the long term before things get complicated.
How does root inflammation manifest itself?
Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is always indicated if the tooth nerve is already severely damaged or dead due to deep caries, an accident or inflammation. Bacteria penetrate the inside of the tooth and can ultimately also affect the jawbone, which can lead to serious damage to general health. Severe pain is usually the result of the inflammation. It is also possible for the disease to be completely painless, which is why root inflammation, which often follows inflammation of the dental nerve, can ultimately only be detected with an X-ray.
What happens during root canal treatment?
The root canals can vary greatly in number and course, especially in multi-rooted teeth. For this reason, the canal system is first clarified using a three-dimensional DVT. During root canal treatment, the dentist removes the inflamed or dead tissue from the root of the tooth, any pain is eliminated and the root canals are rinsed and prepared with antibacterial agents. The root canals are then completely filled to seal the edges. Where possible, root canal treatments are carried out under a rubber dam at the dental practice in Berlin Mitte. This is a rubber-like sleeve that is tightened around the tooth with a metal clamp and isolates it from the bacteria-rich saliva. The rubber dam creates a sterile, saliva-free environment.
What is an apicoectomy?
Root canal treatment is not always successful straight away and the inflammation of the tooth root does not subside. If it is already very advanced and has attacked the root tip, it must be surgically removed. This is referred to as a "root tip resection" (RTR). Upon request, we can perform this procedure completely painlessly under general anesthesia, so that you are fast asleep and unaware of the surgery.
Laser treatment
The highly concentrated beam of light from the laser gently separates the inflamed root tip and vaporizes the tissue at the same time, so that there is no further bleeding, as would be expected when using a scalpel. The laser therefore causes fewer post-operative complaints and the tooth can be treated quickly.
