Learn everything you need to know about digital smile design and simulating your new smile.

Smile Design is a structured planning process in cosmetic dentistry. Photos, videos, and digital scans are analyzed to plan the shape, alignment, and gum line of the teeth so that they harmonize with the face—all before treatment begins.

The simulation provides a realistic preview of your potential results. It is intended to serve as a guide and help you make an informed decision, but it is not a guarantee. Individual factors such as tooth structure, gums, bite alignment, and the materials chosen can affect the final result. That is why we provide you with transparent information in advance about the possibilities and limitations.

Typical examples include portrait and smiling photos and videos, intraoral photos, and digital impressions obtained via intraoral scanning. Intraoral scanning provides a precise digital foundation for CAD-based planning.

Depending on the initial situation, Digital Smile Design can assist with procedures such as veneers, crowns, composite bonding, gum aesthetics, aligner planning, or combined approaches. The most appropriate option is determined based on functional considerations and the need to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Aesthetics begins with precise analysis

With Digital Smile Design, we first assess what suits your smile: the shape of your lips, the amount of tooth surface visible when speaking, tooth proportions, and the gum line. The goal is not a “standard smile,” but a harmonious, personalized overall appearance. It’s important to note that aesthetics must never overshadow function—which is why, at your dentist’s office in Berlin, we always take bite and chewing function into account.

The digital simulation is based on image data and a digital impression, known as an intraoral scan. This data is used to create a virtual model, which allows us to design tooth shapes and lengths and evaluate them in relation to facial features and lip movement. Thanks to this visualization, you can see in advance what treatment results we can achieve, and you can provide specific feedback on your preferences.

Mock-up: A test smile to "try on"

A mock-up is used so that you can see the planned result not just digitally on a screen. This temporary plastic mold is placed directly on your teeth. This allows you to try on your new smile and check how it looks in the mirror—even before the actual treatment begins.
