Find out everything you need to know about placing implants for bone deficiencies.

A bone block - usually made from the patient's own bone - is inserted into the affected area to create volume and stability for the subsequent implant.

Autologous bone is generally better accepted by the body, heals stably and provides a firm base for implants in the long term.

High-quality systems such as ANKYLOS® implants offer mechanical stability, long durability and esthetic adaptation to the natural dentition.

Careful removal of ingrown material, followed by a new, customized bone augmentation, can create the basis for successful implant placement.

Case study of a young patient

A 28-year-old female patient needed implant-supported dentures to close the gap in her front teeth and be able to smile again. Before the implants were placed, it was necessary to rebuild the damaged jawbone in this patient. Prior to this, augmentation attempts had already been made by previous dentists, but unfortunately these failed. A synthetic bone augmentation material was used in several unsuccessful treatment attempts. This led to extensive inflammation, which resulted in a massive bone defect in the affected anterior region instead of additional bone volume.

First of all, the remains of the synthetic bone augmentation material had to be extensively removed. This was the only way to create the basis for a new, now successful, treatment step. Prof. Dr. Khoury carried out this treatment competently in our practice. Bone block augmentation could then be started. The aim was to create a stable and long-term basis for anchoring dental implants.

A dental implant functions as an artificial tooth root and supports high-quality fixed or removable dentures. This artificial root bonds firmly with the surrounding bone tissue as it heals. The bone must provide sufficient volume and stability so that the implant can later support the denture. Therefore, if there is a corresponding bone deficit, bone augmentation with autologous bone from the lower jaw is a decisive success factor for the subsequent implantation and should therefore be carried out professionally.

Once the desired stability of the jawbone had been achieved, Prof. Dr. Olze was able to start placing the implants. In order to ensure long-term stability and aesthetics and to avoid the need for further surgery, he chose high-quality ANKYLOS® implants and denture components from Dentsply Sirona in consultation with the patient. This restoration solution enables long durability and mechanical stability. This high-quality solution also impresses on an esthetic level. This ensures that the patient can still smile and bite with ease even after decades. The innovative bone augmentation method and the sustainably designed implant components counteract subsequent bone resorption and the tissue remains stable and healthy in the long term.
